  • Aisha Kasim (Nigeria)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned an MA in Business Management in 2006.

    Lifetime achievements

    Entrepreneur, inventor and hair extensions specialist. Kasim invented a low-heat hair styling tool and appeared on the 2015 season of the BBC’s popular TV show The Apprentice.

  • Amal Azzudin (Somalia)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned an MSc in Human Rights and International Politics in 2014.

    Lifetime achievements

    A human rights campaigner and winner of the World Changing Alumni award in 2018. Azzudin is best known as one of the ‘Glasgow Girls’ along with some of her schoolmates, after petitioning the Scottish Parliament to change laws around the detention of children in Scotland.

  • Charles Chuka (Malawi)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned an MPhil in Monetary Economics in 1988.

    Lifetime achievements

    Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi from 2012 to 2017. In April 2012, Chuka announced a series of reforms that allowed foreign exchange to enter the country.

  • David Timis (Romania)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned an MA in Business Administration and Management in 2014.

    Lifetime achievements

    Named ‘Young Leader of the Year’ in Romania by Revista Cariere and included on the Forbes ’30 Under 30′ list, for his continuous work to promote education, digital skills, and entrepreneurship among young people. He was also nominated by the University of Glasgow, for AACSB’s “Influential Leaders Challenge”, which recognises honorees who are creating a lasting impact in their communities, industries, and around the world.

  • Donald Kaberuka (Rwanda)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned a PhD in Economics.

    Lifetime achievements

    An economist and former president of the African Development Bank from September 2005 until September 2015. Kaberuka is credited with helping to stabilise the Rwandan economy following the effects of the 1994 genocide.

  • George Saridakis (Greece)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned a BSc Aeronautical Engineering in 1993.

    Lifetime achievements

    An industrial designer working for the Ford Motor Company. His most notable achievement has been designing the Ford Shelby GR-1 Concept car.

  • George Watt Fairfull Smith (Bolivia)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned an MB ChB (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) in 1941.

    Lifetime achievements

    Awarded the Military Cross in 1945 after serving in the Second World War as Captain of the 10th Highland Light Infantry in Burma. In 1981 he was made an MBE for his services to children at the Hansel Handicapped Village, of which he was a director.

  • Jacky Ng (Hong Kong SAR)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned an MSc in Quantitative Finance in 2011.

    Lifetime achievements

    Risk Manager in the Institutional Equity Division at Morgan Stanley, an American multinational investment bank and financial services company with its headquarters in New York City. Morgan Stanley ranked 67th in the 2018 Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue.

  • Professor Thandabantu Nhlapo (South Africa)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of the University.

    Lifetime achievements

    Human rights lawyer and academic. Nhlapo was appointed as a full-time Commissioner on the South African Law Reform Commission by President Mandela in 1996.

  • Sam Karunaratne (Sri Lanka)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned an MSc in Engineering.

    Lifetime achievements

    A former Professor of Engineering and leading Sri Lankan academic. Karunaratne is the founding Chancellor and President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology and the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa. He contributed to many major construction projects in Sri Lanka, pioneering the use of computer-aided design.

  • Susanne Mitschke (Germany)

    Graduated from the University of Glasgow

    Earned an MSc in International Management, Leadership and Business Growth in 2015.

    Lifetime achievements

    Co-founder and CEO of Citruslabs (formerly MindMate) a mobile app which supports those affected by Alzheimer’s and their relatives. Mitschke was named Young Alumna of the Year in 2018 by the University of Glasgow and was listed in Forbes’ Europe 30 Under 30 list.
