Why study a Hospitality and Tourism degree?

Tourism is a hugely important part of the world economy, with many more people travelling abroad today than in the past. For many countries, the tourism and hospitality sector is the most important part of their economic structure.

Working in this field is therefore a sensible and potentially lucrative option in an increasingly connected world. International students can get a head start in their career with a Hospitality and Tourism degree from a top university.

But what are the best universities for Hospitality and Tourism degrees?

The USA and the UK have many of the planet’s most attractive tourism destinations. In fact, London was recently named the 3rd most visited city in the world by CNN, with New York also in the top 10.

However, both countries also offer exceptional bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Hospitality and Tourism, and other related subjects, at great universities.

For instance, the University of Westminster benefits from its prime location in central London, a city that attracts 18 million visitors a year. This, coupled with London’s status as the top academic city in the world (QS 2016), makes its degrees such as Tourism and Events Management an attractive prospect for international students.

Pace University also enjoys a superb location for Tourism students, in the heart of Manhattan in New York City. New York is home to an enormous tourism industry, with the sector contributing many billions of dollars a year to the city’s economy.

Pace offers the only AACSB-accredited Hospitality and Tourism Management degree in the New York City area, and gives students the chance to gain exposure to some of the city's world-class hotels and restaurants.

Back in the UK, Bournemouth University, located on England’s picturesque southern coastline, is ranked in the UK’s top 25 for Hospitality and Tourism degrees (Complete University Guide 2017).

It has a great selection of degrees in the subject area, including Tourism Management, International Hospitality Management, Events Management, and Events and Leisure Marketing. It also offers related degrees that could prove hugely beneficial for anyone pursuing a career in tourism, including Advertising, Marketing Communications and Retail Management.

The University of Brighton is also in the UK’s top 25 for Hospitality and Tourism degrees (Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017). Located in one of the country’s most popular seaside destinations, the University offers degrees such as International Event Management, International Hospitality Management and International Tourism Management.
