Why study a Hospitality and Tourism degree?

Tourism is a hugely important part of the world economy, with many more people travelling abroad today than in history. For many countries, the tourism and hospitality sector is the most important part of their economic structure.

Working in this field is therefore a sensible and potentially lucrative option in an increasingly connected world. International students can get a head start in their career with a Hospitality and Tourism degree from a top university.

But what are the best universities for Hospitality and Tourism degrees?

The USA and the UK have many of the planet’s most attractive tourism destinations. In fact, in 2018 London was named the 2nd most visited city in the world by Forbes, with New York also in the top 10.

Both countries also offer exceptional bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Hospitality and Tourism, and other related subjects, at great universities.

For example, Bournemouth University, based on the UK's pretty south coast, is ranked 3rd in the country for Hospitality, Event Management and Tourism (Guardian Good University Guide 2019). Bournemouth has a lot to offer tourists and students alike — in 2018, its beach was named best in the UK by the popular travel website Tripadvisor. The University offers students undergraduate and postgraduate degrees including International Hospitality Management and Tourism Marketing Management.

The University of Westminster benefits from its prime location in central London, a city that attracts more than 18 million visitors a year. This, coupled with London’s status as the top academic city in the world (QS Best Student Cities 2018), makes its degrees such as Tourism and Events Management an attractive prospect for international students. Westminster also enjoys a ranking of 6th in the UK for Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism (Complete University Guide 2019).

Finally, the University of Brighton, also located on the sunny south coast, is in the top 30 for the subject (Complete University Guide 2019). Brighton offers an interesting range of Hospitality and Tourism degrees, from International Hospitality Management to Tourism and International Development!

Pace offers the only AACSB-accredited Hospitality and Tourism Management degree in the New York City area, and gives students the chance to gain exposure to some of the city's world-class hotels and restaurants.

Another great university to offer Hospitality and Tourism degrees in the USA is Arizona State University (ASU). ASU is based in Phoenix, which also welcomes a lot of tourists, with  44 million people visiting in 2017.

ASU currently ranks as the innovative university in US (U.S. News Education 2019), and has been for four consecutive years! At ASU, you could study degrees like Community Resources and Development (Tourism) or Tourism Development and Management.
