Progress to the University of Birmingham via an IYO in Engineering

You can choose this exciting study route to the prestigious University of Birmingham: the International Year One (IYO) in Engineering at Kaplan International College London!

Applications are open for this preparation course, which offers progression to the second year of an Engineering-related degree at this traditional red brick university from September 2022.

International Year One in Engineering

The IYO in Engineering is a fantastic opportunity to fast-track your path to an undergraduate degree at the University of Birmingham, which is a member of the elite Russell Group, ranked top 15 in the UK (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023).

The IYO combines full university preparation, including enhancing your academic skills and raising your English language level, with the equivalent of the first year of a Birmingham bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

When you successfully pass your course at the required level, with good attendance, you’re guaranteed progression to year 2 of your chosen degree. This means you’ll be able to graduate in the standard 3 years.

You’ll also get to experience life in two of the UK’s most exciting major cities, studying your IYO at Kaplan International College London in the UK capital, before moving to Birmingham for your degree studies.

What can I study?

The IYO in Engineering leads to a range of exciting degrees at the University of Birmingham, in 4 core subject areas:

Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering

10th in the UK (Complete University Guide 2023)

Civil Engineering

15th in the UK (Complete University Guide 2023)

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

6th in the UK (Complete University Guide 2023)

The University of Birmingham

The University of Birmingham is a red brick university and Russell Group member with an excellent global reputation. You’ll study on a beautiful 250-acre campus with high-quality modern facilities, and benefit from the University’s expert teaching.

You’ll also have access to the University’s fantastic Careers Network. This service can help you to find a work experience placement or volunteering opportunity in the UK or overseas, and can assist you with funding as well.

You’ll also benefit from workshops and presentations covering topics such as CV writing and interviews, as well as one-to-one advice tailored to your specific career goals.

This service doesn’t finish when your degree does either — you can continue to access careers advice and job opportunities through the University after you graduate and many Birmingham graduates return to advise current students through the mentoring programme.

All of this explains why Birmingham is the UK’s 3rd most targeted university by graduate employers (High Fliers 2023) and ensures that you’ll graduate with a bright future ahead of you.
