Kaplan was founded in 1938 by educational pioneer Stanley Kaplan. Our publicly traded parent company, Graham Holdings, has a long and distinguished record of, and has demonstrated a consistent commitment to, investing in education. We are not a private equity-owned firm seeking short-term gains; we are loyal to mutually beneficial, long-term partnerships with universities.
Kaplan International Pathways’ 2005 partnership with Nottingham Trent University was the first of its kind in the UK. Our 2007 partnership with Northeastern University was one of the first of its kind in the USA. Both institutions have renewed their contracts with us for an additional ten years, a testament to their satisfaction with the partnership. We have now established successful partnerships with more than 40 other universities.
As we explore new university partnerships, we are mindful not to compromise student recruitment on behalf of existing partners. Our goal is to expand the options available to the students we serve, while delivering the best possible value to each university partner.
On average, Kaplan International Pathways partner universities utilising our on-campus model benefit from almost 500 new students per year. We take pride in giving our partners not only an increased volume of students, but also a markedly improved diversity spread of nationalities – thereby internationalising their campuses – and a substantial and sustainable contribution to their revenues.
We are committed to making sure that our entire team understands, and can effectively communicate, each partner university’s brand, programmes and key benefits. Our employees visit each university regularly to stay on top of changes, and immerse themselves in all aspects of university life, so they can more effectively match the right students with the right universities.

In 2017, the University of Glasgow and Kaplan celebrated 10 years of working together, with the partnership going from strength to strength in that time. This year, we plan to welcome more than 1, 000 students through Kaplan. Once they progress to the University, they’ll join the 5, 000+ international students from over 120 countries already on our campus, making for an even more global community.
