York has been an important centre of British culture for many centuries, and locals and visitors alike can enjoy everything the city has to offer. This is reflected in York being named the best place in the UK to live for 2018!
The Sunday Times Best Places to Live 2018 has crowned York as the winner of its annual compilation. Every region, city and village of the UK was carefully looked at to find the best possible destinations, with everything from local food to pet-friendliness taken into account.
The list highlighted York's mix of historic beauty and high-tech buzz as reason for its success. It summarised:
"This mini metropolis has a rich history and grand ambitions to be one of the best-connected hubs in Europe, with cool cafes, destination restaurants and innovative companies."
Expanding on why, after years of coming close, York had at last made the top spot, The Sunday Times explained:
"You can’t deny the romantic beauty of York. The period buildings, the meandering river and the iconic Minster have ensured this city a billing in every Best Places list... ...[But] York today is a mini metropolis, with cool cafes, destination restaurants and innovative companies — plus the fastest internet in Britain."
