New 15-year cooperation agreement with the University of Liverpool

Words by Robert Sadler

We are delighted to announce that Kaplan has signed a new partnership agreement with the University of Liverpool, which will support Liverpool International College (LIC) for an additional 15 years.

Preparation for degree success

LIC’s pathway courses prepare international students for entry to undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Liverpool. Courses teach key academic skills, while helping students improve their subject knowledge and English language ability, ensuring they are fully prepared for their degrees.

Since it launched in 2007 with an original cohort of 80 students from 10 countries, LIC has grown to become one of the UK’s largest degree preparation colleges situated on a partner university’s campus. In 2015/16, more than 900 students from 52 countries enrolled on LIC’s courses.

To date, more than 3,500 students have progressed through LIC to the University of Liverpool. These students who study in Liverpool go on to have successful careers around the world, and act as great ambassadors for the University and the city.

What does this mean for students?

The 15-year partnership extension agreement will begin with the building of a new world-class LIC facility on the edge of the University campus. The purpose-built development, due to open in 2019, will provide 45,000 sq ft of modern teaching, learning and residential space in Liverpool’s new Knowledge Quarter. International students can look forward to an incredible study abroad experience at these fantastic new premises.

University of Liverpool Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, said: “We are delighted to renew our partnership with Kaplan for a further 15 years. This reflects the strength and quality of our collaboration, and the success of Liverpool International College.

“LIC makes a significant contribution to the University’s international student recruitment, which not only benefits the campus, but also contributes to the economic and cultural fabric of the city.

“We will be celebrating 10 years of LIC next year, and along with the development of LIC’s new world-class facility, this makes for exciting times ahead for our partnership.

Linda Cowan, Managing Director of Kaplan International Pathways, said: “Over the last 10 years, our fruitful partnership has built a highly successful college with excellent growth in the number and diversity of students. We have developed a wide range of courses for progression to the University of Liverpool’s schools and departments, and together we have built an enviable reputation for the quality of our offering. We are delighted to continue our work with the University.”
