If you’d like to work in the exciting tourism industry, then our new course might be the right choice for you:  you can now study an International Year One (IYO) in Tourism and Hospitality at Bournemouth University International College.

Bournemouth University (BU) is one of the best universities in the UK for Tourism and Hospitality — in fact, BU ranks 10th in the UK for Hospitality, Leisure, Recreation and Tourism (Complete University Guide 2021). It’s also the ideal place to study Tourism, as it’s located in one of the UK’s most popular seaside resorts!

The new IYO in Tourism and Hospitality is a great way for you to get ahead in your studies at BU. An IYO combines university preparation with the 1st year of an undergraduate degree, so you’ll progress straight to the 2nd year of your degree. You’re guaranteed entry to your degree when you complete your course at the required level, with good attendance.

Bournemouth University International College is based on campus at BU, so you’ll have access to the University’s cutting-edge facilities and feel part of the student community from your first day. Don’t worry if you aren’t able to travel though, as you can also enrol online and study your course digitally from your home country.

When will the new course be available?

Applications are open now, with the first intake starting in September 2020. This means you’ll be able to start the 2nd year of your BU degree in September 2021.

Work placement opportunities

The BA (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management degree features a compulsory work placement year. Work placements offer students a fantastic opportunity to gain vital employability skills and industry knowledge, as well as grow their professional network. All of these can help you really stand out to employers when you’re looking for a job!

A work placement year could even help you get better grades — students who do a work placement are reported to perform better when they return to their studies. Usually degrees with a placement year are 4 years in length, but as an IYO allows you to start at year 2, you’ll finish your degree in the standard 3 years.

You can learn more about work placements at BU here.
