A fresh face for Kaplan's Glasgow accommodation

29 Sep 2017 - Fiona Raleigh

We think it’s important to keep our accommodation modern, fresh and welcoming, so that you feel at home while you study abroad. That’s why, during the summer, we refurbished our Glasgow International College student residences, Franklin Point and The Globe.

So what's new?

Here are some great changes you'll enjoy at The Globe in Glasgow:

• Bright shared spaces, with new sofas in the common room, and bean bags in the TV room
• Vending machines in the common room (they even offer Asian-style snacks and drinks!)
• A pool table in the common room
• New kitchen floors and worktops
• A quiet study room
• An attractive flower garden at the entrance

Franklin Point, our other residence in Glasgow, was also refreshed and it looks brighter and fresher than ever!

Both Franklin Point and The Globe now have a “Taxi Butler”, which is a fast and secure way of organising a taxi. This will make it easier to go out and explore Glasgow, and make the most of your time here.

We also have a brand new team of wonderful people at our Glasgow residences. They are there to enhance your accommodation experience. During Arrivals Week this year, we offered a porter service; we delivered students’ luggage to their rooms while they checked in, so that their arrival was easy and stress-free.

Meet our new Glasgow Residence Manager

Residence Manager Rob Hotson

Rob Hotson

Australian, but I have added British and Dutch to my collection of nationalities.

Tell us about yourself:
I was born in Australia and grew up by the beach in Adelaide. I left Australia in my early 20s to travel and see the world. I forgot to go home and, since leaving Australia, I have lived in The Netherlands, Indonesia, Vietnam, and now the UK.

I have always been passionate about customer service and hospitality, so student accommodation was a logical next step for my career. I realised that student residences needed to focus more on customer service, so I wanted to help improve this.

What’s your position and when did you join Kaplan?
I’m the Residence Manager of The Globe and Franklin Point in Glasgow. I was invited to join Kaplan in April 2017, so I suppose I’m the “new kid in town”.

What’s the best thing about your job?
That’s easy. The students in our residences are the best thing by far! We help them have fun and try to make them feel at home, and get the most out of their time here. I think it’s important to make sure they are comfortable because they are so far from home.

What can students expect from living at The Globe or Franklin Point?
You’ll experience living in a clean, comfortable and fun residence. Our team are very approachable and are here to help with anything you need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

You’ll also be in the heart of Glasgow’s famous “West End”, with its many cafés, restaurants and independent shops. You’ll be a 5-minute walk from Glasgow International College, which is right next to Kelvingrove Park – one of the most beautiful public parks in Europe.

Glasgow city centre is home to the “Style Mile”, where you can find a whole range of world-famous brands and designer outlets. This is one of the best shopping areas in the UK, outside of London. From the College's residences, the city centre is only a 10-minute subway or bus ride away, or a 20-minute walk.

Live and study in Glasgow

Glasgow is an incredible city and a great place to be a student - we hope you’ll come and make your home here!
