Australian cities among the very best in the world for students

27 Mar 2017 - Francis Pearson

Despite its relatively small population, Australia is the world’s 3rd most popular destination for international students according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. So why are students heading there in such large numbers?

The popularity of Australian universities is partially owing to the high quality of education. The Australian University system is ranked 10th in the world (Universitas 21), and is home to some of the world’s best facilities and teaching. A degree from a high-ranking Australian University is respected by employers worldwide.

But international students are also choosing Australia for the cities in which the universities are based. According to the QS Best Student Cities 2017, Australia boasts 7 of the world's 50 best cities for students, including Adelaide and Perth. Cities are ranked in 4 categories for students, and both Adelaide and Perth perform well in all of them:

Quality of life – Adelaide and Perth offer a high quality of life, with a variety of cultural and sporting opportunities, world-class entertainment and excellent cuisine. They are also incredibly safe cities.

Affordability – Both cities are highly affordable places to live, meaning you can get a great education and enjoy student life without having to spend too much money.

Student mix – Adelaide and Perth are both home to large and diverse student populations from all over the world.

Employer activity – Both boast fantastic opportunities for graduates, and offer very good employment prospects.
